Effective Delegation/subordinate/committee tasks Management
Adage says what gets measured, gets improved.
It is very true. Even if someone just keeps a schedule what
he would do for a day and try to follow it, it increases productivity a lot.
Besides I have used procrastination busting method for following such schedule.
For official things, it is 30 minutes or 10 minutes change rule and Other
things it is 10 minutes or 2 minutes rule. It means unless it is very urgent
like calls from your boss, client, masters students, parents; you will adhere to
the schedule unless it is changed atleast 2 minutes ago for other things and
atleast 10 minutes ago for official things. Again, just get a work done like a
rough draft seems a useful idea. It comes from the saying done is better than
perfection.
Another management adage says, what gets tracked, gets done.
So after delegation, it is important to track how it is going and have a
mechanism to ensure accountability. The mechanism may be meetings, daily short
email updates, calling or texting time to time to get update, formal written
report within a timeframe etc.
Redundant communication, that is passing same information in
different modes, is very important when there is no formal authority by the
project team leader.
I found short email updates everyday very effective. As
it does not cost virtually nothing, precise and traceable later if required.
